* About Burundi
About Burundi
Burundi is one of the world's poorest nations and is now rebuilding following civil war since 1972.
Burundi-outline-small
Burundi has an estimated population of around 8 million, approximately half of whom are aged 14 or less. The effects of AIDS and cival war has had a significant effect on the demographics of the country.

There is now peace since elections in 2005, but the country still faces the formidable challenges of reviving a shattered economy and of forging national unity with up to 500,000 refugees now returning from camps in Tanzania and Kenya.

   June 2010 Hope Centre Report

Since our last post Pastor Leonard and his wife Jolie have been blessed with a healthy baby called Rachel. The Local administrator (Jean Samandari) and his wife (holding Jolie's baby) visit to see the Hope Centre's latest member. It still amazes me to see just how blessed Pastor Leonard and his wife are compared to when we first met them and the conditions that they were living in with all their orphaned children. All the children are healthy and well cared for. This is as a direct result of your faithful and continuous giving:

Many other visitors come to welcome the new arrival:

I'm not sure what this little child's story is? I have asked the question and will add the reply here when I know more:

The children of Hope Centre playing in the undeveloped land along with other children from the local community:

A couple of the wheel barrows that we brought with us were used until they fell apart however the children can easily entertain themselves with what ever is lying around:

Any shoes are a luxury for most Burundians and these are the most common kind of footwear that you will see. They are sold by the thousands at the markets for only a pound or two. It looks as if they are proud to show us their new shoes still clipped together. I still have my very own blue pair that I will wear proudly on my return to Burundi later in August this year:

Fresh eggs in the morning. Perfect, especially when they have been laid by Hope Centre's very own hens:

Please Remember

We don't want to forget about Hope Centre and it's ongoing needs for funds to keep the building work going but now, more importantly, we need to make sure that having built the houses they have enough money to live in them and be able to employ the mamas and buy the necessary food etc.

Continued support still required:

Can I just say that it is great how many of you have donated or been involved with this project in some way however there is still much to be done and, even after the houses are complete, there is still the need for a vocational school and clinic in the Gatumba community. This, however, only scratches the surface of the problem here in Burundi so please encourage many more people to get on board and find ways to help where they can. This requires a lot of sacrifice with your time and money but every little bit of help goes a long way.

Please continue to give of your time and money to this project and other projects like this.
